MEET THE Counsellor

experience:

Brittany’s wealth of mental health knowledge is derived from her 8+ years of professional experience working in various social service fields (corrections, education, and Indigenous-led non-profit). She also obtains a Bachelor of Arts with Majors in Psychology and Sociology from the University of the Fraser
Valley. Within these institutions, Brittany has prioritized social justice advocacy and has supported clients with a diverse range of intersectional identities and mental health needs e.g., depression, anxiety, trauma, emotional regulation, addictions, grief and loss, and 2SLGBTQIA+ affirming care. Brittany’s years
of professional experience in the public mental health sector have provided valuable, and irreplaceable insights regarding client accessibility to mental health services, system navigation barriers, and effective counselling practices. Brittany continues to uphold and strongly believes in offering these standards of
practice as a counsellor in the private sector.

Authentic Mental Health Services:

Brittany respectfully acknowledges how starting counselling for the first time or reintegrating back into therapeutic services can feel overwhelming. It can also be extremely challenging finding a new mental health professional that you can be open with and trust. Connecting with a counsellor that aligns with your
personal needs is extremely beneficial, impactful on the overall therapeutic process, as well as assists with the progression of your individual goals. When accessing counselling and/or consultation services from Brittany, you will receive meaningful, and authentic human-to-human support from a transparent,
charismatic counsellor who has a bubbly personality.  Additionally, Brittany’s prioritization of client-counsellor collaboration supports trust building within the therapeutic relationship, strengthens client autonomy, and decision-making over their own life. Brittany’s goal as a counsellor is to support
you with gaining the knowledge and skills to help you improve your overall wellbeing.

Therapeutic Approach:

Brittany utilizes holistic, integrated, strength-based and client-centered approaches. Some therapeutic interventions that she is experienced with includes, Trauma-Informed Practice (TIP), Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT), as well as Queer and Feminist theoretical perspectives. As a motivated counsellor and person, Brittany is continually expanding her own professional and clinical skills.

2SLGBTQIA+ Affirming Mental Health Practices:

Throughout Brittany’s professional and educational career, she has always been passionate about gender and sexuality issues.  Brittany openly identifies as a Queer woman and is dedicated towards advocating for equity and inclusivity of systemically marginalized communities within her personal and professional platforms. Brittany’s lived experience as a Queer woman has exposed her to the negative impacts of systemic oppression that her 2SLGBTQIA+ identifying peers frequently face.  Unfortunately, these harmful biases, and prejudices also creep into the mental health profession, and therefore, make it even more challenging for 2SLGBTQIA+ identifying folx to access affirming and quality mental health services. As a counsellor, Brittany acknowledges her own, and clients’ identities as strengths. Brittany continues to fight against systemic oppression and its various chameleon-like forms by providing affirming mental health services that encourage resiliency, representation, celebration of diversity and fluid expression, as well as the experiences of the individuals among it.

Brittany’s Heart:

Brittany’s family lineage are settlers of English, Irish and Scottish descent. Brittany and her family have the privilege of living, working and playing on the unceded, traditional and ancestral shared territories of the q̓ ic̓əy (Katzie), q̓ wɑ:n̓ ƛ ə̓ n (Kwantlen), Máthxwi (Matsqui), and se\'mya\'me (Semiahmoo) First Nations.  Brittany has a beautiful growing family, and supportive wife. Outside of sessions with her clients, Brittany is a busy and active mom on her family’s farm, hiking, or playing sports like hockey. Brittany’s miniature Dachshund Felix, and barn cat Guinness are typically at her side or close by, as they are a huge part of the family.
